Educational Field Trip in Hanoi: What Students Learn in an Inclusive Workshop

A new venue is not enough

Students need to handle materials, solve a task, ask questions and meet people with different life experiences. At KymViet, craft, communication and inclusion are explored in a real workplace.

Four learning goals

Students practise observation and sequencing, fine motor skills and patience, non-verbal communication, and a more accurate understanding of disability and professional ability. Teachers should choose age-appropriate goals before booking.

Learn through a craft task

Students receive materials and complete a guided item. They may need to retry, ask for help or watch a peer—useful moments for discussing collaboration and different learning rhythms.

Communication and inclusion

Simple signs create a new interaction channel. Discussion should focus on communication barriers, reasonable support and artisans’ professional roles, avoiding pity-based narratives.

Adapt by age

Younger groups need fewer steps, shorter sessions and more visual guidance. Older students can explore careers, design, production, social enterprise and responsible consumption. Teachers and KymViet should agree the final format.

Safety and preparation

Schools provide ages, group size, teacher ratio, accessibility needs, allergies, transport and arrival time. Safety expectations should be introduced before the visit, with tools and tour areas confirmed in the programme.

After the visit

Reflection prompts can ask which sign students remember, what was difficult, how they sought or offered help, and what changed in their understanding of work. The handmade item becomes a reminder of the learning.
